Readers may experience laughter, chuckling, chortling and feelings of superiority resulting from learning. Any strange looks from passers-by and rolling of eyes by fellow Pipers are not the responsibility of the author or the publisher.

The Piper's Guide To Formal and Solemn Occasions, is intended as an aid and guide for those Pipers faced with the daunting task of playing at a formal occasion, such as a Wedding, Military Mess Dinner, or Civic function; or for solemn events such as Funerals and Memorials. The focus of this book is about the level of musicianship, presentation and performance skills and the mindset a Piper needs to perform at them, as well as some of the business aspects of piping professionally. It is based on what I have learned in more than a quarter century of piping funerals, weddings, civic events and formal dinners; what I learned as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in the Canadian Forces; and from over two decades of my own extensive research. From that, I have compiled this guide for Pipers.

Finally, the most important reason I undertook writing this book is that at a formal occasion, you the Soloist Piper only get one chance to do it right. A "Piper fail", that internet video clip of you screwing up, is not just embarrassing for you; it is a reminder that you spoiled forever what should have been a special moment for a family.
