A collection of priceless artefacts has been stolen from the Langford Museum. The authorities have no leads. The museum guild, determined to keep the theft from public knowledge, have hired a discrete team of experts to track down the missing artefacts and bring them back before anyone notices that they're missing.

Nicolai Serreford and his crew are not discrete, not really experts, and have no intentions of keeping things quiet. Following a lead provided by 'ex-pirate' Valentine, they're going to steal back the artefacts and become headline news... or at least kill a lot of people trying.

But as the fate of the island's native people becomes clearer a disturbing new problem comes to light that has Lenora and her team asking two questions; What really killed the Iskarans? And how has it survived so long on the island without new flesh to fuel it?
