The Prince and the Pauper sees Mark Twain venture out of his comfort zone of the Antebellum American South to embark on a classic and timeless tale of mistaken identity.
Set in 16th century England, the story follows a pauper Tom Canty who has an uncanny resemblance to the heir to the English throne, Edward Tudor.
Unbeknown to their families, the two boys establish an unlikely friendship, and a childhood prank turns horribly wrong when they switch clothes and each is mistaken for the other.
For both boys it is an educating experience. Tom learns living a life of luxury and power is not as Utopian as it seems, and the Prince is woken up to the injustice and cruelty his subjects face on a daily basis.
As well as Twain's classic novel, this book includes a biography of the author, historical context, text annotations, and a glossary.
