The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald

Eight-year-old Irene lives alone in a castle, a wilderness and a mountain kingdom, with only her maid, Lootie, as a colleague. Her father, the king, was out of the ordinary, and her mother was dead. She doesn't know the nearby mines, home to the goblins, who have long been exiled from the kingdom and are now anxious to take revenge on their human neighbors. One rainy day, the princess explores the castle and meets a mysterious beautiful woman who identifies herself as Irene and her great-grandmother. The next day, Princess Irene persuaded the babysitter to take her outside. After the Darkness, they are chased by the Goblins and are rescued by a young miner Curady, whom Irene befriends. Working with the other miners, Curady hears the goblins' talking, and their conversations reveal the secret weakness of the goblin's anatomy to Curdi. That is, they have very soft and fragile feet. Curdi sneaks into the Great Hall of the Goblin Palace to overhear their convention and hear that the Goblin intends to flood the mines if other parts of their plans fail. He later conveyed the news to his father. In the palace, Princess Irene had an injury to her hand that her great-grandmother healed. A week later Irene was about to meet her great-grandmother again. But he was afraid of the long-legged cat and fled to the mountain. Then the light from her Great Hall led to her house, where her great-great-grandmother gave me a ring attached to Irene's invisible thread except herself, which after that she was constantly connected to the house.

When Curdie explored the goblins' domain, he was discovered by goblins and stamped on their feet with great success. But when he tried to stomp the Queen's feet, she was not injured as a result of her stone shoes. The Goblin locked Curady, thinking he would die of starvation. But Irene's spell leads her to his help, and Curdi steals the Queen's goblin's stone shoes. Irene takes Curdy to her great-grandmother and is advised. But she could only see Irene. Curady later learns that the Goblin is digging a tunnel in the mine to the king's palace, where they plan to kidnap the princess and marry her to Prince Goblin Harelip. Kurdi warned the palace guards about this. Instead, he was imprisoned and got a fever with a wound on his leg until Irene's great-grandmother healed the wound. Meanwhile, the Goblin breaks through the palace floor and comes to kidnap the princess, but Curdie escapes from the cell and stamps it at the goblin's feet. When the goblins retreat, Irene is believed to be a prisoner. But Kurdi followed a magical thread to her hideout at his own home and returned her to the King. When the goblins flood the mines, the water enters the palace and Curdy warns the others, but the Goblin drowns. The king asked him to serve as his bodyguard, but Curdie refused, saying he could not leave his mother and father, and instead received a new red petticoat as a reward.
