A fast-moving novel that centers on Monica Woods, who at thirty puts her tragic experiences behind her. She then entered into a brief second marriage to a Vietnam veteran that left her a widow with a mentally challenged daughter. Monica, beautiful and intelligent, is exactly the companion Robert Holton seeks to help him expand his business in the exciting world of commodities. An expert in debt securities and in managing other people's money, Robert is a complex character who performs easy money machinations throughout the story.

Two ambitious people with different values, Monica and Robert, fall in love and together make millions in the stock market. The novel's focal point arises when Monica discovers Robert's deceit to their clients and to her.

The setting for most of the novel is New Orleans with colorful backdrops in New York, the Bahamas, and Mexico.
