Why in hell do we pay money for people to scare us half to death?
Why is it fun?
One universal element that appears in virtually every human's psychology is fear. This is true regardless of personal history or characteristics.
This project explores the elementary description of fear, as well as how and why humans have learned to recreate it and use it as an entertainment medium. Although every individual has different experiences that formed or nurtured their fears, there is significant evidence that fear is natural, instinctual as well as manageable for a myriad of purposes, including entertainment.
Regardless of our individual histories, there are consistencies in our fears, how they form our lives and how we entertain ourselvesas in being attracted to scary moviesand sometimes heal ourselvesas in PTSD treatmentby manipulating fears to enhance our healing. I believe without the ability to manipulate our fears, for some of us, it would be difficult to imagine living meaningful, purposeful lives.
