Evil has triumphed and the dead walk among men, their flesh imbued by the Beckoning with a seductive and irresistible beauty.

A boy on the cusp of manhood must face the night and the seductive allure of the dead, armed with nothing but runes to ward him from their irresistible allure. After his family is murdered by the creatures of the Beckoning, Jan sets out on a quest for revenge, joining the Tair, nomadic warriors who hunt the dead. As he trains with the sword and runes, Jan finds himself becoming increasingly distant. Revenge is all he cares about, but the Beckoning twists everything to its purpose, and he fears he may be losing his soul to the very thing he hates the most.

Torn between his desire for revenge and holding on to the things that make him human, Jan must make a decision that will determine not only his fate, but the fate of the entire world.
