The Shimmering

Deep within our hearts and minds the shimmering sleeps. It is our true nature, but for many years, it has slumbered, unaware of itself, forgotten by all. Darkness and confusion reign. Until now.

As a child, Lucien Leben meets a mystical woman who foretells a time when the shimmering will emerge and enlighten the world. It will be a difficult time, she warns, when old ideas and outmoded ways will be shattered, making way for the new. Lucien ignores her warnings and grows into a controlling, wealth-obsessed man. Then in 2030, the shimmering arrives and society crumbles. People collapse in the streets, overpowered by unseen turmoil. Crime rates sky rocket, and powerful forces attempt to seize control, imposing martial law to avoid further breakdown.

Amidst the chaos, Lucien's tightly organized world quickly unravels, allowing a predatory enemy to dog him at every step. Why is this enemy so bent on destroying him? Will the shimmering help or hinder him?

As time runs out, Lucien's quest to understand his enemy transforms into an exploration of himself. He unearths old traumas and suffers new wounds before facing the ultimate choice: surrender to the shimmering or lose everything that truly matters. Can the ever rational and cynical Lucien relinquish control and trust the shimmering?
