Just before dusk, a snake stretches out on a window sill minding its own business and enjoying a cool evening's summer breeze. Along comes the operator of the village Rice Mill filled with brash and luster, intent on telling the snake it is not welcome, it has to leave - dead or alive. The snake disagrees and determines that it is the Rice Mill operator that has to retreat - like it or not. What happens next is a game of cat and mouse between man and serpent that reveals aspects of the intricacies of life in the village and the fragile relationship between its human and non-human inhabitants.
