Desiring to return to Poke, Mississippi, to see his parents and his childhood sweetheart again, he must fight another battle. The simple, small town existence he left a few years earlier isn't quite what he remembered. In fact, it's changed completely.

Jack homecoming and his destiny are both unexpected and unusual because the sacrifice he's asked to make will be much more costly than those he suffered in the war for Philippine independence from Spain.
