Taiwan is a treasure island with green mountains and clear water. It has thus the best conditions to build deep and wide reservoirs to store water for drinking, irrigation, power generation, etc. But some reservoirs have silted up and do not function properly anymore. In order to preserve the surviving reservoirs and to rescue the endangered ones, authorities use silt-preventing and -discharging measures. Because silt is heavier than water, silt prevention is impossible, so only silt-discharging can be done. This book proves that the current silt-discharging tunnels are actually water spillways. Therefore, water experts dare not call their award-winning masterpieces silt-discharging tunnels, but contradictorily call them silt-preventing tunnels.
