The Unfortunate Victims

A cold, brutal killer is stalking the streets of the quiet residential suburbs, committing the most shocking and audacious crimes imaginable. The thing is, she's the ambitious detective inspector assigned as senior investigating officer to the case, and she's determined to catch the Spinster Killer come what may. It's the case of a lifetime, and she'll follow every lead to bring the ruthless monster to justice. The only trouble is, there's no evidence to go on. Every clue leads nowhere, each lead comes to a dead end. There are no witnesses, no motives, no suspects. There's no sign of a struggle at any of the crime scenes, just a single dead woman. It's almost as if the killer is a phantom on a mission

Meanwhile, the deaths are coming in thick and fast, and the bodies are starting to pile up at the morgue, each one distinguishable by a ruined skull and a pulped face.

But there's also another feature of the so-called "spinster killings" each of the victims has been sexually violated by a household object and posed post mortem. The killer's confidence is growing. He wants to make a statement and he's starting to taunt the investigators.

DI McElhenry thinks she's the woman to catch the killer, but her superiors are starting to have doubts. She's beginning to feel the pressure, because if she doesn't start getting results soon well, she could very easily be replaced.
