"Then" All of a sudden, she stopped, stood up, and strode away. "Oh, never mind. I can't do this."

"Cassie, wait." I got up and followed her to the door.

She stopped and turned. Tears were running from her eyes. She pulled her floppy straw hat off. "I can't do this anymore. I can't keep acting."

I gathered her into my arms, and she quietly wept onto my shoulder.

"Do know how hard it is to live with Kent? I just want to be loved. I want to feel wanted." She let go of me, crossed her arms, and looked down at herself. "Look at me.
