Now, according to the Fuhrer, they were sent to the East for no more than a three-month walk, to seize the pillars of Bolshevism-Leningrad and Moscow, and that the world would sigh, having freed itself from Bolshevism as a plague.
In German society, inspired by the "exploits" of Hitler's troops on the Eastern Front, who believed in the power and invincibility of the Third Reich, the war "somewhere out there" and this does not concern them-serenity reigns, the revelry of merriment and with ecstasy await-lack the speedy victory and the fall of Moscow. The townsfolk-the burghers, the petty bourgeoisie, all the middle strata of the population, stupefied by Goebbels' propaganda, retired in secular lounges, bars, dancing balhouses, show off their unique outfits and decorations, show themselves and, most importantly, learn from the military how to do it on the Eastern Front. Semi-naked maid of honor with a decollete neck and bare shoulders, twirled in a waltz and with their inherent frivolity, asked the military: when will we finally hear the word "victory" - the capture of Bolshevik Moscow? The skin of the unbroken bear was shared directly at balls: all sorts of options were offered, at first it was good to pillage, everything valuable to be taken to Germany, and then ... One of the staffs directly referred to the Fuhrer: "Destroy, wipe off and fill with water."
However, let us return to reality. On December 6, the Red Army attacked all the fronts on the battle formations of the Hitlerites. Day after day, in fierce battles, the Red Army liberated its native land, destroyed the main Nazi group of armies "Center" and threw 130 kilometers from Moscow, once a formidable-now pathetic remnant-Guderian's 2nd Panzer Army. The tankmen retreated in panic, fleeing, throwing to the mercy of fate trucks and tanks. The echo of the defeat of the armies "Center" instantly came to Berlin. Just a few days ago the whole of Germany lived in the hope that valiant German troops would triumph victoriously in Moscow. And here is a passage: instead of a furor - deep disappointment and despondency. Hitler, furious with the failure of the blitzkrieg, dismissed many high-ranking generals and field marshals, including Brauchitsch, von Bock, Guderian, counting them incompetent in disrupting the "Barbarossa" plan.
Hitler in deep trance. Hiding in a bunker from Soviet long-range bombers that bombed military plants, it was hard to suffer defeat near Moscow, the inability to master the Bolshevik Leningrad, but the worst offense was the defeat near Moscow.
