Three Wise Men

Most science books are hard work!

So, Three Wise Men is a fact book with a fictional twist. It's a novel way of explaining the science behind those profound questions we ponder on occasionally; the origins of the Universe and life, are we alone in the Universe, the beginning of Time, does God exist, why are people religious and what happens after death?

To make the science, which endeavors to answer these questions, more palatable, the scientific facts are presented as a dialogue between three fictional friends; an investment bank trader with a scientific background, a pious Catholic of Irish descent and a down-to-earth Italian plumber, who meet every Friday in a New York bar.

Each chapter covers one of these profound questions, starting with the existence of God which naturally leads onto the reasons why people are religious and believe in Heaven and Hell. Having strongly challenged the rationale behind religion, the book then counterpoises this with discussions on the origin, the size, and the end of the Universe. What happened during the Big Bang and afterwards? How old is the Universe? How will the Universe end? How are stars formed? What is a Red Giant? A White Dwarf? Even a Black Dwarf? What actually is the color of the Sun? How are elements formed in the stars the building blocks of all mater and life? This leads onto discussions on the link between space and time, and the origin of life including the possibility of life elsewhere. Are we alone or not? Why haven't we made contact with any extraterrestrial life? Finally, there's a historical perspective on death and burials with a touch of added humor.
