Trek to the Victoria

Little did Aussie fruit farmer Brian Mitchell, a confirmed bachelor, know that the safari he intended to join and enjoy as a well earned holiday would turn into a life threatening saga of survival. A survival that would challenge all his skills to overcome being lost and marooned in some of the most rugged country in the Northern Territory of Australia. His safari companion, the lovely Jenny Carlyle, Fashion Designer and Boutique Proprietor from New York, was to share these traumatic events that would bring these two close together in situations where love was to blossom.

The tragic death of their guide leaves them facing crocodile attack, wild buffalo and illegal bird smugglers in their bid to survive. Their struggle to reach the Victoria River and make it back to civilization becomes an epic journey in a patched up two wheel drive vehicle not suited to the terrain, especially while being harassed by the illegal bird smugglers. With Jenny ill and in need of medical attention, Brian Mitchell is required to call on all his reserves to make the "Trek to the Victoria" and safety.

"The sharp 'crack' came just as we neared the bottom and all of a sudden the engine was roaring, but the vehicle was not going anywhere. I knew immediately that we had broken a front axle.

Jenny had heard the crack and sensed something was wrong.

"What's happening?" she asked somewhat anxiously.

"We've just put paid to Peter's vehicle," I replied. "We've broken a front axle."

Jenny didn't reply. She obviously realised the seriousness of our situation.

The capture of the illegal bird smugglers by the police from information provided during the 'Trek' leads to court proceedings where they are both witnesses. Their lives are further complicated when forced to live under police protection and when the testimony in court given by Brian Mitchell is subjected to challenging scrutiny by the Queens Counsel leading the Defence Team.

Throughout all these events their respect for each other grows into love which is finally fulfilled despite their geographically widely separated responsibilities in life.
