Vanity Fair is a novel written by English author William Makepeace Thackeray in 1848. Thackeray wanted the book to be not only entertaining, but also instructive. The story is regarded as a classic of English literature. In this novel writer satirizes society in early 19th century Britain. Main characters are two women Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley among their friends and family. The story is considered a classic and it spawned several film adaptations. The novel begins at Miss Pinkerton's academy for Young Ladies, where Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley who completed studies decide to depart for Amelia's house in Russell Square. Becky is displayed as strong-willed and cunning young woman determined to make her way in society.
