Jack is a failed wizard, a remnant of that bygone era of when England ruled the world, before the War to End All Wars. Now the people now had Communism for their daily bread and they wanted for nothing (according to all the official newspapers). And whose fault was it? The aristocrats? The capitalists? The Catholics? No, all fault landed on the scapegoats, on the wizards. In this time of lynchings, the mob made no distinctions between the bystander and the guilty.

When a woman walks into Jack's life who intuits his secrets, she introduces him to a world of politics, idealism, corruption, and Theosophy. With each step and misstep, he's drawn further into the public eye, one step closer to discovery, one step closer to mystery. If he can walk that line between two worlds, he can unravel the mystery that is himself, but if he fails, his next ride is a hearse.
