WALK TO SCHOOL

Synopsis

Tanirika sat in a corner with torn clothes and shabby hair. She had been crying for long which made her eyes look swollen and dark. There was pain and grieve in her eyes but what made me wild was fear and confusion on her face. She didn't knew why she was sitting in that room surrounded by women constables and guns. There were no offenders but room was full of victims' wailing cries which was shaking my soul. Is this the future what we are looking for? Middleman running this prostitution racket were still missing but the room was flooded with girls of all age and colours. We had been informed to reach immediately to help the police to settle out these snivelling girls. It had been four hours and I felt tired and exhausted with their burden. They showed diversity in our culture but for shocking reasons. Right from Sikkim to Kerala, there were no states left from where these girls had not been sold for money to feed other members of their family to keep them alive. Life comes with this cost was unimaginable for me. I went and sat near Tanirika a ten year old thin brown skin girl. ....

The short story "Walk to School" is a dark fictional story. The story is based on the human traffiking problem still existing in many places around the world. I hope it brings some change.
