I don't even know where to begin because learning from our mistakes is such a vital aspect of not being a snotty person. To put it another way, if you make a mistake and learn from it, suddenly that error is beneficial. Making it a practice to learn from our mistakes acts as a magical elixir that transforms all of the embarrassing, cringe-worthy crap in our lives into something that makes us stronger. And while that may not completely get rid of our bad feelings, it does stop things from growing worse.

Regret has an adaptive function. It may benefit us or harm us.

When we feel regret, we have two options: we may dwell on the mistakes we've made in the past or we can take action to prevent them from happening again.

Perhaps you messed up a relationship years ago, and the memory still hurts. Use it to determine the problems that led to your mistakes rather than beating yourself up:

Perhaps you were a bit too absent.

You might have been a bit too self-centered.

Perhaps you were a timid communicator.

Perhaps there are unattainable requirements for your love.

Moving on requires accepting your mistakes, comprehending what transpired, and incorporating that experience into your understanding of who you are right now. It does not involve rationalizing away all of these uncomfortable feelings or blaming yourself or the outside world for your misfortune.

This compels you to own up to your mistakes, and if you own up to your mistakes honestly, you don't repeat themregret is for when you don't learn from your mistakes.

It goes without saying that this is far easier said than done.
