In the tale of Eyamba I. of Calabar, we are introduced to a powerful king who ruled over his domain with an iron fist. He was known for his conquests, having defeated neighboring countries and enslaved their inhabitants to work on his farms until death. Despite his strength and authority, Eyamba I. faced a unique challenge in his personal life he had two hundred wives but no sons to inherit his throne.

In the hopes of securing an heir, Eyamba I.'s subjects suggested he marry one of the daughters of the spider, renowned for their fertility. Reluctantly, Eyamba I. agreed to marry the daughter, named Adiaha, despite finding her physically unattractive due to a supposed curse that made her appear ugly during the day. However, Adiaha possessed a secret beauty hidden beneath her outer skin.

Eyamba I.'s head wife, fearing the king's potential affection for Adiaha, sought the help of a Ju Ju man to concoct a potion that would make the king forget about her. For months, the potion succeeded in keeping Eyamba I. oblivious to Adiaha's true identity. However, Adiaha's father, the spider, sought the help of another Ju Ju man who revealed the truth to him. Adiaha then prepared a potion to counteract the effects of the spell, leading to Eyamba I. recognizing her once again.

Adiaha and Eyamba I. eventually had a son, much to the dismay of the jealous head wife. She resorted to further manipulation, convincing Eyamba I. to believe that his son was plotting against him. As a result, Eyamba I. reluctantly threw his son into the river. This act of betrayal deeply saddened Adiaha, but the Water Ju Ju intervened and saved the boy, nurturing him to adulthood.

When Adiaha gave birth to a daughter, the jealous head wife repeated her deceitful tactics, leading Eyamba I. to discard his daughter into the river as well. Again, the Water Ju Ju intervened, saving the girl and deciding it was time to take action against the head wife's malice.

The Water Ju Ju orchestrated a wrestling match where Eyamba I.'s son, now grown and resembling his father in strength and appearance, emerged victorious against all opponents. The match served as a platform for the revelation of Adiaha's true identity and the treachery of the head wife.

During the trial that followed, Eyamba I. learned the truth about his family and condemned the head wife for her wicked deeds. With the support of the people, Adiaha was rightfully recognized as the queen, and the head wife met a fitting end at the hands of the Egbos.

Following the resolution of the trial, Eyamba I. and Adiaha were joyfully reunited as husband and wife. They ruled together harmoniously, with their children, until Eyamba I.'s passing. His son succeeded him as the ruler, continuing the legacy of justice and prosperity.

In conclusion, the tale of Eyamba I. of Calabar is a story of love, betrayal, and redemption. It showcases the power of family bonds, the consequences of jealousy and deceit, and the triumph of truth and justice in the end. Through the guidance of the Water Ju Ju and the resilience of Adiaha and her children, righteousness prevails, ensuring a prosperous future for the kingdom of Calabar.
