For 60 years of my life, I believed in my religion because I am autistic. Autistic people have great difficulty dissembling falsehood. We are loyal because we do not suspect people to lie to us. The only way we discover untruth is through education. From childhood, my focus was on God. In my teen years, the fasting laws in my religion changed. I asked, 'how is it possible that yesterday I committed a sin if I ate this food and today it is not a sin?' The answer I received was, 'because the church decides what constitutes a sin.' 'Hu,' I said, 'you mean to tell me that the church decides if God is offended by what we do?' I always thought God decided that. I may be slow on the uptake but I am far from stupid.' I always thought God decided if I was worthy of heaven. I did not think people on earth had the power to make that decision. That was the first inconsistency I discovered in my religion. If we build our beliefs on a false foundation, the day will come when our building will collapse. The more I studied my religion the more irregularities I found. There is one thing about autistics people do not appreciate; we are loyal in our belief. We are loyal until we discover people lie to us. I left my church because I could no longer support the inconsistencies I found. Since then, I have spent the past 22 years of my life searching to discover God in creation. Because our parents and tutors indoctrinated us with core values in the early part of our lives, we are not astute enough to question these values until we are older and educated. I trust people to tell me the truth in religion. When I discovered there was no truth in what I believed, I went in search of truth. This is the story of my search to find God in creation.
Because religious indoctrination obscures and clouds our thinking, most people are unaware they can find truth with observation, thinking, and basic knowledge. None of it is difficult, but it requires an evaluation of core religious beliefs. We must be willing to open our minds to a new way of thinking about God in creation. The religious belief that God will judge us and send us to heaven and hell belongs to an era of ignorance and bloody mindedness. Theologians perpetuate the myth of God as a person with human attributes sitting in judgement over good and bad people. The truth is very different and simple to understand. We give meaning to life by what is important to us. We give purpose to life by the way we deal with the vagaries of life. At the end of life, we will know if we are heroes or cowards. God does not decide what will become of us in the afterlife. We choose for our self what will become of us in the afterlife. Heaven and Hell are a state of being in this life. While we live, we can change who we are. Death only confirms who we became in life. In death, we are forever what we have chosen to become. We chose heaven or hell while we live, that is the truth. We all know in our own hearts what we are. Let no religion tell you otherwise. Karl Marks said, 'religion is the opiate of the people.' Why did he say that? He said it because people take religion for granted without giving it a second thought. For 60 years of my life, I accepted religion for what it was even though I knew there were things wrong with it. That was until I said, 'why do I still believe even though so much of it does not make sense. Take as an example the elephant God Ganesh in India is a man with the head of an elephant. I ask you, does that make sense? Karl Marks was right; religion is the opiate of the people.
