Hamilton Reevers was a popular crooner with Len Lampeter's dance band, currently operating from the little village of Nether Imgor due to the Blitz that rages in London. So popular was Reevers, in fact, that over a million people were listening when he was shot dead live on air during the BBC's Home Service Programme. Inspector Burke is not best pleased to be called away from his work with Scotland Yard's espionage squad to investigate the crime. But as he probes the matter, ably assisted by Inspector Havering of the local constabulary, Burke begins to suspect that Reevers' murder may have a much wider significance than he initially suspected...
