Darleen's husband came to collect her, or free her from another silly situation she had fallen into. She hadn't been babysitting after all, instead the neighbour's son had been in charge of his wife for the evening, which he found amusing. He wasn't amused on finding his wife and that damn boy had sex. He left her asleep in the boy's bed, leaving in a fit of anger. He was fed up with her stupid pranks as they always went wrong.

When the boy's mother, Margie, arrived home, Darleen had deeply sunk into the role of teenage girl. Darleen was being mothered by Margie, something she had missed as her mother died in childbirth. All her life she had been spoilt my a father then a husband. It was a relief not having to dress to look her age all the time, as everyone thought she was a teenager. Reliving her youth was enjoyable and helping to put to rest her past.

It became difficult to stop being a teenager and impossible to assert that she was a grown woman. Where was her husband? Why hadn't he rescued her? When Margie put her into school, that made it impossible to escape the role of schoolgirl without help. It seemed her husband had abandoned her.
