Having nothing better to do, I lugged my trunk that contained all my worldlies down to the bus stop in Hidden Valley. The bus driver took pity on a scared girl and told me how to work the bus systems. I took buses into the big City. I ended up taking a bus to an intersection near a bar called Wild Times. I picked up my pathetic trunk and walked into Wild Times. A man wanted to know what I was doing in the place. I told the man that I was new in town, with little money and I needed a job, any job. The man had me talk to a woman called Lynne."
Lynne asked me what my situation was.
I told her, "I have almost no money and I'm willing to do anything that will earn me a living."
Lynne told me, "Wild Times has a job for you, but you might not want the job."
I sighed and told Lynne, "It's do what I have to do or sleep in the park and starve."
Lynne asked me, "Can you dance?"
I told her, "Yes, I have done a little dancing, mainly ballroom dancing, but I do know how to dance."
Lynne said, "If you want to work here, you have to dance on the stage, wearing almost nothing and then take that off. You have to entertain the men in the audience. You have to take them into the back room. Have you ever had sex with a man?"
I swallowed hard and told her, "Yes, I had sex with my boyfriend, more than one boyfriend."
Lynne then told me, "You dance for the men. You look them in the eyes. If you find a guy who looks interested, you try to convince him that he needs what you have. If you interest a guy, with your dancing and eye contact, he'll take you into a back room, for sex. The guy who wants to rent you won't be young or handsome, otherwise he probably wouldn't need to rent you. If you give him what he wants, he'll pay the bartender. You get to keep half of what you earn in the back rooms. You'll also get some tips. You have to give some of your tip money to the bartender. Do you understand?"
I was shocked to the very core of me. However, it was dance naked and screw men, or starve. I timidly asked Lynne, "How much money will I make?"
Lynne laughed, "Listen to me. A girl who looks like you, dances her shifts and works at taking men into the back room will make about the same money, in a year, as the president of the little bank down the street. If you spend reasonably, and always get value received, you'll get a little rich. However, if you listen to some smooth talking boy, you'll wind up with nothing."
I swallowed hard and told Lynne, "I have nothing now. I don't like having nothing."
Lynne nodded yes and told me, "I can get you a room within walking distance of here, nothing fancy. You can get credit at the cafeteria, down the street, just until the money starts to roll in. You don't need fancy clothes, at least to start. Fancy shoes might help you sell yourself, but don't go wild. You screw any customer who pays the bartender. The bartender won't sell you to a reeling drunk or some guy who smells like the downwind side of a barnyard. If you meet with some guy who wants to screw you, outside of Wild Times, you're insane, maybe dead. You work a shift, five nights a week. If you prove popular, you get better shifts. You dance every scheduled turn each night, unless you're in the back room. The girls are death on any girl who tries to avoid dancing her turn. You don't work, when you have your period. Any questions?"
I swallowed hard and asked Lynne, "When do I start and do I just come in the front door?"
