How do you prepare for disaster?

When John Dexter's solo canoe crashes during the first day of a canoe trip in the wilderness of northern Maine, he is lost, injured and alone in some of the deepest, uninhabited wilderness in the state. After nearly a year of preparation and finally convincing his mother to let them go, John Dexter embarks on canoe trip with his cousin on a remote stretch of river in northern Maine. When his canoe crashes in rapids during the first day of the trip, John is separated from his cousin, badly injured, and lost.

In this action-packed and suspenseful story, the reader is pulled through the pages as John Dexter wanders through the wilderness, alone and disoriented, with nothing but a backpack and his Boy Scout Field Book. When he is finally discovered, it is by the one person in the woods more lost than him. Who is this man, and has John Dexter been saved or captured?

This book is set in northern Maine and is a work of fiction. Author William McCarthy is native to New England and is an outdoor enthusiast, photographer and avid hiker.
