Yoga in the Gospels?

There are already a great number of books available on hatha or physical yoga practice, but the number of books on the philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga is rather limited. Books on the common ground between Christian teachings and the spiritual side of yoga seem to be extremely scarce. This book discusses the parallels between ancient spiritual yoga texts and the Gospels. Yoga in the Gospels covers the main aspects of yoga: 1.) Yoga through worship2.) Yoga through concentration and meditation 3.) The yoga practice through work 4.) Yoga through non-dualism, the unity of the Individual Spirit and the Infinite Spirit of God. A. Nicholas Cowan currently lives in Midlothian, Scotland. Born in 1940, he was educated at St. George's School in Harpenden. Cowan attended Southampton University and received a Joint Honours Degree in Philosophy and Politics. He was then accepted by the International Voluntary Service (IVS) as a graduate volunteer to teach in West Africa for a year. Cowan taught English and Literature, Art, Music and mountain adventure. 1967 saw him appointed as Lecturer at Duncan of Jodanstone College of Art, mainly teaching Liberal Studies. At that period he had already been studying yoga, and latterly had been teaching yoga part-time for the Scottish Yoga Centre. From 1990-1994 Cowan was elected as Honorary Chairman and was also appointed as Tutor in Yoga Philosophy. He taught his own yoga classes for several years and also studied and qualified as an Osteopath in 1984, subsequently opening his own practice, where he worked until retirement. Cowan now spends his time writing about his experiences and keeps bees part-time. He hopes this book will be a useful guide for many Christians as well as teachers of religious studies.
