Schizophrenia is one of the largest causes of years lived with disability worldwide. Burdening society with lost productivity and increased costs of social services. I reviewed the scientific literature for all promising methods of reducing this burden. I ended up with 4 novel methods (fish oil, Open Dialogue, boosting NAD, and a combination of all synergistic treatments) of improving functional recovery in schizophrenia to the point of being able to rejoin the work force. A cost benefit analysis was applied, using the Canadian system as context, to each of the 4 methods (scenarios 1 to 4) with the benefits to society of implementing these new modalities being higher than the costs in all scenarios. I concluded that countries could gain slightly more than an equivalent portion to GDP as the percentage of schizophrenics in a given society if one of scenarios 2 to 4 were implemented (less for scenario 1: fish oil). In the case of Canada this would lead to a 0.72% increase to yearly GDP.
